    This course meets every other day for a full year, meeting the 20 week NYS requirement for JH art.

    It is offered to all 7th grade students. 

    These student artists will participate in a basic art course and will be introduced to various mediums, interdisciplinary concepts, and basic drawing and art skills. 2D and 3D art will be explored. The course will help students explore the function of these various media. Exploration, creative expression, and personal satisfaction are the goals.

    Grading Policy:

    Artwork 80%

    Participation: 20%

    Participation includes engagement (getting right to work, staying on task during class, handing in work on time) effort and attitude (stays focused on art during class and tries their best), Classwork (Bellwork, ATCs, skill building activities) homework (work is complete and handed in a timely manner), conduct (respectful, takes care of materials and tools, no phone policy) and clean up.

  • Art Studio 1

    Grades: 8-12

    This is the first in the series of HS level art courses.

    This is a full-year introductory course which emphasizes perceptual drawing and introduces the student to the basic elements of art and principles of design. It is the foundation for the three-year sequence required of all art majors who are participating in the IAAP program as well as an experimental course for students who do not anticipate taking any further art courses. Consideration is given to basic skill building, personal development, interdisciplinary and real-world connections, and experience in a studio environment. There are weekly art challenges that are to be completed as homework. A final portfolio will be presented at the end of the year.

    This course will satisfy the graduation requirement.

  • Art Studio 2

     

    Grades: 9-12

    Pre-requisite: Art Studio 1

    In this full year course, the second-year student artists will continue to develop those skills and concepts learned in Art Studio 1. Greater demands will be made, and more sophisticated work will be expected. Creative expression, invention, and mastery skills and abilities should be reflected in the work. These student artists will be introduced to many new mediums in this course. Weekly progress photos are due as well as weekly art history assignments and self-reflections. A final portfolio is due at the end of the year.

  • Photography 1


    Grades 10-12, ½ Credit
    This course can be elected after the student has completed one full year of Studio in Art, or is a senior with departmental permission.. The course serves as an introduction to basic black and white film photography processes as well as a study of the development, nature, and function of photography. The course is designed to have students become familiar with film, lighting, composition, developing and enlarging, cropping, and mounting. This is a traditional darkroom experience with an introduction to digital photography. Students should supply their own cameras and will have the opportunity to learn how to use them. As a 9th grader, this can be taken at the same time as DDMP and can satisfy the Arts graduation requirement.
    Prerequisite: Art Studio 1 and/or departmental permission

  • Adaptive Art

    Student artists will learn about the process of art and improve upon their artistic skills. We will explore various mediums and techniques including paint, oil pastels, collage, clay, and mixed media. This class focuses on art experimentation and having fun with the process of art.

     

    Grading is based on class participation. This includes staying on task, putting in 100% effort, following directions, and completing the daily tasks.
