A NYS Education Department certified Driver Education course is being hosted at Babylon Junior-Senior High School. Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive an MV-285 (Student Certificate of Completion) which gives them the opportunity to obtain a Senior Driver’s License at age 17 and an insurance reduction according to the policies of your insurance carrier. Students will also be able to receive an MV-278 (Pre-Licensing Course Completion Certificate) which is necessary only if they plan to schedule a road test before completing the course.
For sixteen weeks, an hour-and-a-half period of in-car instruction and lecture must be attended by each student. All participants must be 16 years of age and in possession of their permit at time of registration. Attendance is mandatory – The New York State Education Department and the Department of Motor Vehicle guidelines for Driver and Traffic Safety Education require a minimum of 24 hours of classroom instruction and 24 hours of in-car instruction in order to receive an MV-285.
