Course Syllabus

  • Course Description:

Math 7 is about developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships; developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations; solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume; and drawing inferences about populations. Calculator use helps develop, rather than replace, computational skills. Basic geometric concepts are introduced and intertwined with arithmetic. Probability and statistics are studied to provide real world applications for topics previously covered. Students will be required to demonstrate their knowledge of math through applications. Introductory equation solving is also emphasized. Students will be prepared for the state assessment administered each year and will be exposed to the format and content of these questions throughout the year.

    Topics Covered:

    1. Number Systems

    • Integers: Understanding and performing operations with positive and negative numbers.
    • Rational Numbers: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions and decimals.
    • Proportional Relationships: Ratios, rates, and percentages.

    2. Expressions and Equations

    • Algebraic Expressions: Simplifying expressions, combining like terms, and using the distributive property.
    • Linear Equations: Solving one-step and multi-step equations, understanding inequalities.
    • Proportional Relationships: Solving problems involving proportions and percent.

    3. Geometry

    • Angles and Lines: Understanding and identifying different types of angles, properties of parallel and perpendicular lines.
    • Triangles and Quadrilaterals: Classifying and understanding properties of different triangles and quadrilaterals.
    • Circles: Understanding the properties of circles, calculating circumference and area.

    4. Ratios and Proportional Relationships

    • Ratios and Rates: Understanding and solving problems involving ratios and rates.
    • Proportional Relationships: Identifying and representing proportional relationships in various forms.

    Homework Policy:

Homework is assigned through Gimkit, and are graded as a quiz. In addition to this, corrective assignments may be assigned.

    Grading Policy:

Students grades are based on the average of their tests and quizzes. Assessments are usually given weekly.
