The Babylon Union Free School District has appointed Matthew Wells as its new Executive Director of Human Resources, effective this school year. In this new role, he oversees all human resources functions for the district, including recruitment, staffing, evaluations, compliance, and professional development.

Mr. Wells brings nearly two decades of educational leadership experience to the role. He most recently served as Director of Personnel for the Three Village Central School District, where he assisted with coordinating districtwide staffing operations, managed personnel investigations, oversaw formal staff evaluations, and led the Workplace Violence Committee. He also co-directed strategic staffing initiatives and presented on supervision and leadership at regional conferences.

Prior to his tenure in Three Village, Mr. Wells served as principal of Cayuga School in the Sachem Central School District for 16 years, where he supervised all staff, developed building-level budgets, led data-driven instructional initiatives, and implemented professional development programs. He also served as president of the Sachem Administrators' Association, successfully negotiating memorandums of agreement and leading a 40-member unit of administrators and directors.

He holds a degree in School District Administration from Dowling College, a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies and an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Educational Computing from Stony Brook University, and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Salisbury State University.

“I’m excited to join the Babylon community and look forward to getting to know our staff, students, families, and community,” Mr. Wells said. “As executive director of human resources, my role is to support our people—from recruiting and welcoming new staff to employee relations, professional development, labor relations, and ensuring we have the policies and practices in place to help our employees and schools succeed. I’m looking forward to listening, building relationships, and contributing to the positive, collaborative atmosphere that makes Babylon such a special community.”
