This Week at BHS – Memorial Day, End-of-Year Updates & Upcoming Events

Posted Date: 5/25/25 (11:08 PM)

Hello Panthers!

A Meaningful Memorial Day!
As we enjoy this long weekend, we pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage and dedication remind us of the true meaning of this day.
A BIG thank you goes out to our Social Studies Honor Society, who hosted Messages for Memorial Day this past week. Members sold messages (2 for $1) during lunch periods in the SH Café, which were then attached to American flags proudly displayed in our Center Circle Lawn on Friday, May 23. All proceeds were donated to Carry the Load, a non-profit organization dedicated to remembering and honoring our nation’s heroes. The event was a great success—thank you to all who supported!

Dear Babylon Families,
With just three weeks left in the school year, we want to thank you for your continued support and partnership. As we close out the year, we are also planning for improvements in the year ahead centered on student safety, accountability, and maximizing learning time.
Next year, we will implement updates to:
  • Cellphone policies and cellphone ban
  • Locker and backpack policies
  • Student ID cards with a new digital system
  • Hall pass tracking and time-out-of-class monitoring
Our new ID system will help us better manage student movement, create a digital record of missed class time, and even detect and prevent students from meeting up in restrooms—an issue many schools are facing tied to trends like TikTok challenges, graffiti, vaping, destruction of bathrooms, and inappropriate messages or symbols.
These tools are designed to support student safety and well-being while simplifying classroom management for teachers.

As always, Babylon is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment. We’re using this time as a reminder to reinforce expectations with students about respecting their school and each other. Please continue those conversations at home, especially about making good choices, speaking up, and helping us create a community where all students feel safe and supported.
We appreciate your continued partnership and look forward to finishing the school year strong!

A huge thank you to our entire English Department—especially Mrs. Collins, Mrs. Biener, Mrs. Small, and Mrs. Johanson as well as the English Honor Society for hosting a wonderful 10th Anniversary Poem in Your Pocket Day on Friday! The creativity, enthusiasm, and love of literature brought so much positive energy to our halls. What a meaningful tradition at BHS!
