BHS Celebrates Hearts and Minds at SEL Day

Posted Date: 5/14/25 (9:13 PM)

Babylon Junior-Senior High School hosted its third annual SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) Day on April 11, 2025, bringing students together for a day of connection, competition, and community under the theme "Battle of the Classes." The event encouraged students to unplug, bond with peers, and reflect on their goals while reinforcing the school’s P.R.O.U.D. Panther values: patience, respect, optimism, upstanding behavior, and determination.

The day began with an opening ceremony/pep rally, where students faced off in minute-to-win-it games while sporting their class colors. Throughout the day, teachers led SEL-focused lessons across subjects, including English, world language, fine arts, science, social studies, and math, which tied coursework to the school’s core values.

A major component of the day was the "Grit 'N Wit" challenge, where students tackled physical and mental obstacles in grade-level competitions. The event wrapped up with a flag football game and a closing ceremony celebrating school spirit.

Students also gave back through a community service project with the Ronald McDonald House, assembling care kits for families with hospitalized children.
