BHS Senior is a National Merit Commended Student

Posted Date: 11/05/26 (03:50 PM)

Babylon Junior-Senior High School senior Luke Hannon has been named a Commended Student in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program, one of the most selective academic honors available to high school students.

More than 1.2 million juniors across the country entered the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) in the fall of 2025. About 50,000 of them, the highest scorers, were recognized, and roughly 34,000 earned the Commended Student distinction. That is about 3 percent of all entrants. Commended Students receive a Letter of Commendation in recognition of their academic promise.

Luke’s academic record includes other notable achievements. He has earned the AP Capstone Diploma, which requires students to complete two research-focused Advanced Placement courses, AP Seminar and AP Research, and score well on four other AP exams. He has also been named an AP Scholar with Distinction, an honor for students who earn high scores across five or more AP exams.
