Babylon Schools Recognized for Visual Arts Education

Posted Date: 06/26/26 (12:00 PM)

The Babylon Union Free School District has been named a Community of Excellence in Visual Arts (CEVA) winner by the New York State Art Teachers Association (NYSATA). This recognition comes in the award's inaugural year, with only 26 school districts honored across the state. The CEVA distinction celebrates districts that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to providing high-quality, comprehensive visual arts programming for all students at all grade levels.

Districts receiving this honor are evaluated on six core principles: visual arts; instruction by certified art educators; sequential, standards-based curriculum; inclusivity, equity, and accessibility; opportunities; and next-generation artists. The distinction is modeled after the NAMM Foundation's Best Communities for Music Education designation.

Additionally, several student artists are included in NYSATA's 2026 Legislative Exhibit, a virtual showcase of student artwork from across the state.

"This recognition is a reflection of the care, passion, and dedication our art educators pour into their students every single day,” said Babylon Director of Fine Arts Cheryl Schweider. “They routinely go above and beyond to nurture their students’ artistic talents and encourage them to find their self-expression."
